Anchorage police say a man accused of shooting his brother to death at a Fairview home has turned himself in.

Harry J. Steward Jr., 47, surrendered himself at the Anchorage Jail in the death of his brother, 33-year-old Robert P. Steward, police said Tuesday afternoon.

Police were first called to a home in the 1000 block of East 20th Avenue around 7:30 p.m. Before officers arrived, there was a verbal altercation between family members, APD said.

"During the altercation, one adult male produced a gun and shot another adult male, both in the same family," APD wrote in a statement.

Responding officers found the younger Steward's body inside, in what police called a "targeted" shooting.

"Initial indications show that this event was an isolated incident of domestic violence between two family members," APD spokesperson Kendra Doshier said on Tuesday morning.

Doshier said Harry Steward Jr. fled the scene.
