Juneau man fatally shot at shooting range
Juneau police say a 63-year-old man died after he shot himself in the head at an indoor shooting range Saturday afternoon.
According to JPD, Bruce Alan Owens of Juneau and a friend went to a business located at the 1700 block of Crest Street for recreational shooting. Just after 2 p.m., police were called after he appeared to have received a life-threatening gunshot wound to the head.
Owens was rushed to the Bartlett Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
"There was no indication of a disturbance, or any other problems, prior to the shooting," police wrote. "There were witnesses to the shooting and it was recorded on the store's video surveillance system. Mr. Owens died from a non-accidental gunshot wound to the head; foul play is not suspected in the cause of death."
Juneau police confirmed he fatally shot himself.
Owens' body was sent to the State Medical Examiner's office for an autopsy.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding Owens' death.
