Three Skilak area campgrounds are temporarily closed following reports a bear incident, according to wildlife officials.

"Refuge managers received reports of a black bear damaging a camper’s tent in the Refuge’s Lower Ohmer Campground and scratching the single occupant early on Saturday morning, July 21, 2018," Kenai Wildlife Refuge wrote in a release Sunday.

The Lower Ohmer, Upper Skilak and Engineer Lake campgrounds have since been closed.

Officials say camping in hard-sided recreational vehicles is still permitted and campgrounds remain open to day-use.

The closest alternative areas for tent camping are Hidden Lake and Lower Skilak.
