Police ID victim in Old Glenn Highway motorcycle crash
Anchorage police say the man who was gravely injured in a motorcycle crash on the Old Glenn Highway Saturday has died.
Police identified the victim Monday as 56-year-old Joe Carlos, saying no charges had been filed in the case.
An initial APD notification, about what was initially described as a single-vehicle wreck near Artillery Road in Eagle River, was sent around 5:30 p.m.
"The preliminary investigation found that a BMW motorcycle and a Ford 150 truck collided in the 10900 block of the Old Glenn Highway," police wrote in a statement on Sunday. "The motorcycle burst into flames on impact and slid across the highway."
APD spokesman MJ Thim said Carlos was in critical condition Saturday night after he lost control.
“Good Samaritans helped put out the flames on him,” Thim wrote.
Medics took Carlos to a local hospital. He died as a result of his injuries Sunday afternoon, according to police.
The driver of the truck was not hurt.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
