A woman reported missing was found dead in south Anchorage this week, police say, with no word yet available on how she died.

The body of Marione Evan, 34, was discovered at about 9 p.m. Monday near Bulgaria and Golden View Drives by a person walking a dog, APD spokeswoman Renee Oistad said in an email Thursday.

“The [state medical examiner’s] complete autopsy report is not back yet,” Oistad wrote. “No foul play (is) suspected.”

Evan had been reported missing to police on July 3. Oistad declined to discuss the circumstances under which Evan was reported missing, noting that Evan was an adult – and that “it is not a crime for [adults] to be missing.”

Police received 887 reports of missing people and runaway juveniles last year, Oistad said, and have received a combined total of 446 more so far this year. APD evaluates each report for the possibility of sending out an alert to the public, based on criteria including whether people reported missing can properly care for themselves, but chose not to send one for Evan.

“When the missing person report was filed, the information provided did not put Marione Evan in the above-mentioned category,” Oistad wrote.

Organizers of a GoFundMe account set up to help with Evan’s funeral expenses said she “leaves behind four beautiful babies and a loving family.”
