Short pursuit ends in vehicle theft arrest
Anchorage police say they've arrested a man who reportedly stole a vehicle from an east Anchorage home Wednesday night.
William E. Rash, 36, was arrested on charges of vehicle theft in the first-degree and theft in the second-degree following a reported vehicle theft on the 1500-block of Norene Street, according to a statement from APD.
Police say just after 4 p.m., a caller said the locked 1998 Subaru Impala was stolen from the front of the residence.
About six hours later, an officer spotted the stolen vehicle at the Fred Meyer on Dimond Boulevard. The vehicle was followed until backup officers arrived.
"The vehicle was followed to Lowe’s on Old Seward where the suspect backed up into a parking space," police wrote. "Several patrol vehicles surrounded the vehicle; the driver jumped out and ran."
The officers chased Rash and eventually arrested him near the Steam Dot on O’Malley Center Drive.
Following the arrest, he complained of arm pain from an unrelated incident, police said. Rash was then taken to a hospital. Once he was medically cleared, he was taken to the Anchorage Jail.
