It's not a sight many people would not want to see in June -- up to 8 inches of snow. That's exactly what people at the Eureka Lodge woke up to this morning.

Eureka Lodge, located at Mile 128 of the Glenn Highway, posted pictures on Facebook of the snow-covered trees and landscape in the area.

KTVA meteorologist Melissa Frey said snow fell along the higher elevations of the Glenn Highway early Monday morning. Eureka Lodge, located at the highest point of the highway, picked up 8 inches of snow.

The Alaska Department of Transportation reported that snow was plowed around Mileposts 118 to 145. The Dalton Highway also saw some snow and ice up in the mountains.

According to the National Weather Service, the Eureka Roadhouse area can expect showers with a high near 44 degrees. Scattered showers and partly sunny skies are expected for Tuesday.
