A two-vehicle collision at a busy Midtown intersection Saturday afternoon severely injured a pedestrian and closed the intersection for hours, police said.

A statement from APD announced that 36th Avenue was closed at C Street shortly before 1:30 p.m. as a result of the crash.

APD spokesman MJ Thim said Saturday afternoon that two vehicles -- one each on 36th and C -- were approaching the light when they collided in the intersection. There was no immediate word on whether either vehicle had the right of way.

"One of them spins around and hits the pedestrian, a male," Thim said.

Thim said the pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Police had asked that drivers avoid the area until their investigation was completed, with the intersection reopening by 4:30 p.m.
