Anchorage boasts a dozen local parks that feature inclusive playgrounds-- playgrounds that are accessible to kids of all abilities.

"No child should have to sit on the sidelines and watch their peers play," reads the Anchorage Park Foundation's website on inclusive play.

The parks feature turf, making it easy for wheelchair-bound children to access, and the attractions include special slides and pods for children with sensory disorders.

The inclusive parks are also a great place for parents, grandparents and veterans with disabilities to play with the little ones in their lives without barriers.

It gets better: there are five new inclusive playgrounds in the works this year-- plus: an indoor inclusive playground is planned for the Fairview Recreation Center.
