A Fairbanks woman who attempted to steal over $1,000 worth of alcohol was arrested overnight on Sunday after a police K-9 found her hiding inside a Midtown Brown Jug after-hours, authorities say.

Anchorage Police responded to the Brown Jug located at 4140 Old Seward Highway just after midnight in reference to a triggered alarm, according to a release from APD. Once officers arrived, they noticed one of the loading bay garage doors were open, so they set up a perimeter and went inside to clear the building.

After clearing the main floor, officers searched the second floor where K-9 "Kenai" found 37-year-old Maggie Jackson hiding behind a ventilation system.

"Officers had given multiple loud verbal commands for Maggie to come out before she complied," APD wrote in a statement on Monday. "Maggie was taken into custody without further incident."

Kenai did not make any physical contact with the suspect.

APD says Jackson entered the building while the business was still open and waited to burglarized the store once the employees locked up for the night. After that, she gathered up more than $1,000 worth of liquor bottles and placed them outside the building.

Jackson was arrested and charged with burglary in the second-degree, theft in the second-degree and resisting.
