Proposition 1:

The proposed “bathroom bill” would require users of “intimate facilities” in municipal buildings, such as restrooms and locker rooms, to use only those assigned to their birth gender. Backers of the Protect Our Privacy Initiative with Alaska Family Action have said it is needed to prevent government from forcing people to be exposed to members of the opposite sex; opponents such as Mayor Ethan Berkowitz have called it “divisive and distracting at a time when we should be united and focused.”

Editor's Note: Anchorage bonds can be issued for terms of up to 20 years. Individual bonds carry an estimated annual cost to property owners, with some of this year’s proposals including temporary increases in the municipal tax cap to accommodate them.
