Avalanche danger for the western Prince William Sound
The National Weather Service in Anchorage issued a Special Weather Statement at the request of the Chugach National Forest Avalanche Center.
This statement is in effect now through 6 p.m. Sunday, March 11, and affects Turnagain Pass and areas in and around Eastern Turnagain Arm, including the Kenai and Western Chugach Mountains.
In Anchorage, weather for the Saturday afternoon and evening, expect mostly cloudy skies west of the Chugach Mountains with a chance of scattered snow showers. Expect similar conditions on Monday.
On the eastern side of the Kenai Peninsula through Prince William Sound, expect snow to diminish this evening before another round of winter precipitation returns Sunday afternoon.
In the seven day forecast for Anchorage, we have a daily chance for snow, but no significant snowfall accumulation is in the immediate forecast. We may see a few temperature spikes above average over the next seven days, but temperatures will likely return to slightly below average.
