It's National Engineering Week -- which is a time dedicated to encouraging kids to get excited about science, physics and engineering.

Fred Barlow, the Dean of the University of Alaska Anchorage's College of Engineering, joined Daybreak on Thursday to discuss the events happening at UAA to honor engineering week.

An impressive 75 percent of students enrolled in the College of Engineering have jobs in the field prior to graduation. If you are interested in following up with the program, they are hosting three upcoming events:

  • Friday, Feb. 16 -- high school students can take a tour of the college. It includes a screening in the UAA planetarium, as well as interactive labs and activities.
  • Saturday, Feb. 17 -- student competitions kick off at 10 a.m. and go until 3 p.m. It features contests including egg drops, egg tosses, boat building and more.
  • Friday and Saturday -- Alaska STAT Championship for the first Tech Challenge Robotics Competition.
