An Anchorage man was gunned down just minutes after midnight on New Year's Day. Now, investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the fatal shooting to come forward.

In Anchorage's first homicide of the year, witnesses reported that 39-year-old Timothy Smith was shot while walking from the Gaslight Lounge to the Avenue Bar near the intersection of 4th Avenue and D Street. He was pronounced deceased at the hospital a short time later.

"APD is also wanting to talk with the occupants of a silver Chevy TrailBlazer that was in the area at the time the shooting occurred," police wrote Monday afternoon.

Friday, Anchorage Police spokesperson MJ Thim renewed a call for information from witnesses and those who were in the vehicle at the time of the shooting.

"There were a ton of people down there that night that saw what happened," Thim says. "We need their information to solve this crime."

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call APD at (907) 786-8900, or contact Crime Stoppers at (907) 561-STOP or through its website.
