‘Person of interest’ held in assaulted Fairbanks woman’s death
A 29-year-old Fairbanks woman’s death Friday morning remains under investigation by Fairbanks police, who have detained one person in the case.
A police statement on Holly Morgan Rae Charlie’s death said officers first became involved just before 7 a.m. Friday, when they were told a “female assault victim” was being treated at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital.
“Police were dispatched to the hospital and learned CPR was being provided,” police wrote. “A short time later [Charlie] succumbed to her injuries.”
Detectives soon identified a “person of interest” in Charlie's death, who was taken into custody at about 10 a.m. on the 300 block of 1st Avenue.
Police spokeswoman Yumi McCulloch said the person of interest hadn’t been charged or publicly identified Saturday morning. Investigators hadn’t released further details on how Charlie died or whether any suspects were still sought, but McCulloch said police didn’t believe the case posed a wider threat to public safety.
Charlie’s next of kin have been notified.
