Woman dead, man charged in Wasilla wreck
A head-on collision on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway Wednesday evening left a Wasilla woman dead according to Alaska State Troopers, who arrested one of the drivers involved.
Troopers were called just before 7:30 p.m. to the highway’s intersection with Skip Circle, according to an online dispatch.
“Investigation revealed William Brucher, age 35 of Wasilla, was driving west on [the highway] in his 1998 Ford Expedition when his vehicle entered the oncoming lane and collided head-on with a 2005 Chevrolet Suburban,” troopers wrote. “As a result of the accident, passenger Brandy Reed, age 42 of Wasilla, became entrapped in the Suburban.”
Reed and all other passengers in the Suburban were taken to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center, where she died; the others were treated and released for minor injuries. Her next of kin have been notified, and the state medical examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy on her body.
Troopers initially took Brucher into custody on a DUI charge in the collision. Alaska’s online court records hadn’t been updated with the case or any additional charges early Thursday, but troopers said an investigation of the crash is continuing.
