2 arrested for stealing mail in the Tudor area
Anchorage Police have charged two people they say were stealing mail Tuesday afternoon in Anchorage's Tudor area.
Around 12:45, a citizen called to report two individuals stealing mail from mailboxes in the 1200 block of Saint Gotthard Avenue.
Responding officers located two people matching suspect descriptions on the south side of 36th Avenue near Rhone Circle.
APD spokesperson Renee Oistad says when the officer attempted to make contact with 23-year-old Ralph Vagana, he refused to comply and attempted to run away. Two officers were able to apprehend him, but it Vagana continued to struggle, Oistad says, and it took three officers to get Vagana into handcuffs.
Vagana, who had an outstanding felony arrest warrant, was charged with third-degree theft and resisting arrest.
The second suspect, identified as 18-year-old Patricia Huddell, was taken into custody without incident. She's charged with fourth-degree theft.
Oistad says both Vagana and Huddell were carrying a box full of mail that didn't belong to them at the time of their arrests.
