An Anchorage dentist charged with Medicaid fraud appeared in court Monday.

The story made national headlines after video surfaced of Dr. Seth Lookhart, on a hoverboard, performing a dental procedure on a sedated patient.

Lookhart and Shauna Cranford were arraigned in Anchorage Monday on 14 counts, including fraud and theft.

According to the Department of Law, Lookhart pushed IV sedation for patients instead of local anesthesia in order to collect more from Medicaid. The Department says his practice alone took in 31 percent of total Medicaid payments for IV sedation in 2016.

The Department of Law also alleges Lookhart devised a scheme to send money collected from Medicaid directly to his home.

If convicted, Lookhart and Crandford face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $100,00.

A trial is scheduled for February.
