AFD gives car seat safety tips
With icy roads and winter weather here, you may want to check to make sure your child's car seat is installed properly.
Members of the newest Anchorage Fire Department academy spent Friday afternoon giving free inspections in Anchorage. They say nationwide, four out of five car seats are installed incorrectly.
The department has 24 new certified car seat technicians to explain how to properly install car seats, fix any errors and give parents information about the best practices.
"It's amazing," said AFD engineer and paramedic David Wallace. "In the state of Alaska our average is about 85 percent have at least one different misuse in every car seat so coming in, and getting an inspection allows your child to travel as safe as possible."
AFD recommends regular car seat checks and adjustments as your child grows.
Here's a list of several places around the state that provide free inspections.
