Woman lying in snow near Bethel dies at hospital
Bethel police are investigating the death of a woman found late Thursday near town, and are asking for help from the public to learn more about what happened.
According to a post from the Bethel Police Department’s Facebook page, officers were told shortly before 8:45 p.m. Thursday that two men were “trying to start a snowmachine” on a trail to Atmautluak, a few miles outside of Bethel. A woman, later identified as Sandra Frye, was lying in the snow near them.
“Bethel Search and Rescue responded and all three people were eventually transported to Bethel,” police wrote. “[Frye] was transported to [the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corp.] by Bethel Fire Department.”
Staff at YKHC told police that Frye died on Friday, police said. Her next of kin have been notified, and her body has been sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Anchorage for an autopsy to determine her cause of death.
Bethel police said nobody was available Saturday to discuss Frye’s death in further detail.
Anyone with information on Frye’s death is asked to call police at 907-543-3781.
