Alyeska Resort will open one week earlier than first announced, according to Mountain Marketing Manager Ben Napolitano.

That means skiers can hit the slopes as early as Saturday, December 9. Napolitano said favorable weather conditions in November have allowed for the early opening.

"We've had natural snow all the way to the Girdwood Valley and we've been cranking on the snowblowers for the last 17 or 18 days straight. With that weather window we've been able to make a lot of snow," said Napolitano.

Napolitano said not all of the upper mountain will be ready for opening day but, weather permitting, everything from "the tram down" should be accessible. He said additional areas of the mountain will open as conditions allow.

In addition to opening earlier than expected, Napolitano said the resort will extend the season later in the year. He said the last day of skiing is scheduled for April 23, a full week later than normal.
