It's a day to celebrate the men and women who have served and fought for our freedom. Veteran's Day is officially Saturday, but the federal holiday is celebrated on Friday. 

Here's a list of local events and freebies for active and non-active service members. 

Celebrating Alaskan Veterans at Bean’s Café

Bean’s is having its annual Veterans Day lunch to honor and thank their clients who have served our country.

Alaska DMVA hosts Veterans Day Ceremony

The Alaska Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is hosting a Veterans Day ceremony on JBER to honor those who have served. It will include a presentation of the 2017 Governor’s Veterans Advocacy Award.

Location: Alaska National Guard Armory (JBER)
            **Arctic Valley and Ft. Richardson gate will be open for access.

Alaska Zoo

The Alaska Zoo is offering half-off admission for all veterans. Be sure to bring active or retired military ID.

Date: Friday, Nov. 10 and Monday, Nov. 13

Time: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Price: Friday - $10; Monday - receive additional 50 percent off.


If you’re a vet, Starbucks is brewing up deals you won’t want to miss.

The Alaska Museum

The Alaska Museum wants all veterans to come enjoy a day at the museum on them. Show your active or retired military ID for FREE admission.

Ravn Alaska

Ravn Alaska is giving thanks to active-duty military with a special $50 round-trip fare on Veterans Day. Valid for weekend travel through February of 2018 between Anchorage and Fairbanks, Anchorage and Kodiak, and Anchorage and Valdez. Must be booked on Saturday, Nov. 11
