State investigating man’s death at Anchorage auto shop
A man’s death at a south Anchorage auto shop Wednesday is under investigation by state labor officials, with few details immediately available on what happened.
Anchorage police spokesman MJ Thim said police were informed that a man was unconscious at Danny’s Auto Body and Paint, at 7137 Old Seward Hwy., just after 5 p.m. Wednesday. Police weren’t releasing the name of the victim Thursday, pending notification of his next of kin.
“We got there, medics arrived (and) an adult male was declared dead,” Thim said. “It was an industrial situation – OSHA was called, so it took over the investigation.”
Deborah Kelly, Alaska Occupational Safety and Health’s director, confirmed that her office was looking into the death. She said she couldn’t discuss any further details of the case because it was an open investigation.
“Our folks do work with the fire department, the police department, to share information and determine what they’ve learned,” Kelly said.
A Danny’s employee reached Thursday afternoon declined to comment on the case, pending the outcome of an autopsy.
