Anchorage police say a pedestrian was hit and killed by a driver who took off after it happened.

APD received a report of the hit-and-run near A Street and Benson Boulevard around 7:30 Thursday night. When officers arrived, they found the adult male who was struck by a vehicle. The pedestrian was picked up by medics and died en route to the hospital, according to APD spokesperson MJ Thim.

Thim said the driver didn't stay at the scene and was later found at a business located at the corner of New Seward Highway and Benson Bloulevard.

"We have located the driver inside one of the local businesses and we are interviewing the driver as we speak, Thim said. "It is an adult female."

She was driving a dark-colored Chrysler 200. Two middle lanes between Benson Boulevard and A Street were closed for about two hours.

The investigation is ongoing.
