Anchorage police say they have found the man they believe is a person of interest in Wednesday morning's homicide which left one person dead in a midtown apartment complex.

APD says 34-year-old Anthony Aumua has been found and thanks the public for their help with the search.

Police are investigating a homicide involving an adult male who was killed in a shooting on the 800 block of West 29th Avenue. APD spokesperson MJ Thim said Aumua is believed to be a person of interest.

According to police spokeswoman Nora Morse, Wednesday's shooting marks Anchorage's 30th homicide of 2017 versus 23 reported by the same date in 2016 -- a year with more than 30 homicide deaths, breaking a record set in 1995. The city's year-on-year homicide death toll overtook last year's in a triple murder on Spenard Road last month.
