Alaska State Troopers are asking for public help solving a slippery case in Willow, where a home was severely damaged in the wake of a stove’s theft from the property.

A report of the theft came in just before 8 p.m. Friday from a resident on Long Lake Road, troopers said in an online dispatch.

“Investigation revealed sometime within the past week, a residence had been broken into with an installed Toyo stove stolen from inside the dwelling,” troopers wrote. “The suspect(s) failed to plug the heating oil line after they stole the Toyo stove resulting in over 200 gallons of heating oil flooding the dwelling causing at least $5,000 damage to the property.”

Anyone with information on the case, or any suspicious activity in the area, is asked to call Mat-Su dispatchers at 907-352-5401 or Crime Stoppers at 907-745-3333.
