1 dead in Seward officer-involved shooting at Safeway
Alaska State Troopers say one man is dead after they were called to assist after an overnight officer-involved shooting in Seward.
Around 1:45 Sunday morning, troopers were notified that the Seward Police Department officer was involved in a shooting in the Seward Safeway parking lot. Troopers say the officer shot at 41-year-old Micah McComas of Chugiak after making contact with him during a traffic stop.
After the shooting, SPD requested assistance from troopers. An investigator from the General Investigations Unit and troopers from Soldotna and Seward were dispatched to assist with scene security and documentation.
McComas died from his injuries. The officer received non-life threatening injuries during the incident.
Per SPD policy, the name of the officer will be released after 72 hours from the time the incident took place.
