A body was found earlier this week in a tent near Fairbanks according to Alaska State Troopers, who have released few details about the discovery.

Troopers responded just before noon Wednesday to a report of the remains along Chena Pump Road, near Palo Verde Avenue, according to an online dispatch. No mention was made of any possible identity for the body.

“The remains of an individual were located in a tent in the woods near Chena Pump Road,” troopers wrote. “The person has been deceased for some time, and the remains were sent to the state medical examiner for further examination.”

Investigating troopers didn’t respond Thursday or Friday to queries relayed through a spokesperson on how long the remains appeared to have been in the tent, or whether they showed any obvious signs of trauma, the person was apparently homeless or in a homeless camp, or the death appeared related to any reports of missing persons in the area.

Troopers’ investigation of the body was ongoing, according to the dispatch.
