Starr Marsett is running for Seat G on the Anchorage School Board.

Marsett has lived in Alaska for more than 30 years and, currently, one of her children attends East High School. Her interest in the board began when she started substitute teaching at her grandson’s school and others around the district.

“I saw that our teachers and our students were struggling,” said Marsett. “And I felt like there was a disconnect between ASD and the classrooms, and so that’s when I first got started and started getting involved with various committees with ASD.”

Marsett says her involvement in the district has prepared her for a seat on the board.

“I’ve been in many schools every year, I talk to teachers all the time, I talk to retired teachers,” she said. “Just the fact that when I walk on the school board, my learning curve is not going to be that of someone else who hasn’t been involved.”

The 2015 Municipal Election will be held Tuesday, April 7.
