Bicyclist hurt in 3rd Avenue collision with car
A bicyclist was seriously injured near Beans Cafe and the Brother Francis Shelter when he was struck by a car Wednesday morning, police said.
The collision, reported at 3rd Avenue and Karluk Street at about 10:30 a.m., shut down westbound traffic along 3rd at Post Road for more than an hour, before the road was reopened at about noon.
“Initial indications are that an adult male bicyclist was traveling northbound on Karluk (Street), did not stop at the stop sign at 3rd Avenue, and collided with a sedan driving on 3rd,” police wrote.
The bicyclist’s injuries were initially considered life-threatening, police said, but officers at the scene said they were upgraded to non-life-threatening after evaluation by a surgeon.
Traffic investigators were on-site to learn more about the collision.
