An inmate at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center in Juneau was hospitalized in Anchorage after he was reportedly assaulted by five fellow convicts, Alaska State Troopers say.

Troopers say they were notified of the assault shortly before 5 a.m. Wednesday. The inmate, who was not identified, sustained an eye injury and needed to be taken to Anchorage for further medical treatment, according to an AST online dispatch.

The alleged assault is being investigated, troopers say.
