Last updated at 1: 11 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29
According to an update from the Anchorage Police Department, 40-year-old Paula Zorawski was pronounced dead at the hospital Wednesday. She was shot last Thursday during a home invasion in northeast Anchorage.
Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the shooting and are asking the public for help in locating a fourth suspect.
Wednesday, 18-year-old Savon Berry was arrested at home and charged with assault, robbery and misconduct involving a controlled substance, the same charges issued against two teenagers arrested on Sept. 23.
Police issued an arrest warrant for the fourth suspect, identified as 19-year-old Alonzo Tofpi Steward, who turned himself in Thursday afternoon.
Two men have been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting at a northeast Anchorage home Thursday evening which left a 40-year-old woman in critical condition, according to Anchorage police. Charging documents against those men say surveillance footage from the home shows three other suspects who have yet to be arrested.
In a release from the Anchorage Police Department, dispatch was contacted just before 11:00 p.m. Thursday about a shooting at a home on the 5600 block of Alora Loop.
Officers and medics responded and found a woman — identified as Paula Zorawski in charging documents — with a gunshot wound to the head, APD stated. She was taken to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage for treatment. Medical staff later told police she “had little to no chance of surviving and the question was only when she would expire based on the seriousness of the injuries,” charging documents stated.
Michael Patrick Fitzgerald, 18, was arrested Friday and charged with first-degree assault and first-degree robbery. A second suspect, 18-year-old Tommy Hunter Higgs, was arrested and charged with first-degree assault, first-degree robbery and fifth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance.
Charging documents show the two men were with three others, seen in surveillance footage obtained from the home. The video showed the group hiding just out of sight of the front door while Fitzgerald rang the doorbell. When Zorawski opened the door, one of the other suspects shot her through the screen door, according to charging documents. Immediately after shooting her, the group fled the home in a truck.
Fitzgerald told police he and the others wanted to rob the home, where they had recently purchased marijuana, according to charging documents.
“Fitzgerald told detectives that he provided the location of the residence to Higgs and that he would operate as the point person in setting up the drug transaction that would get Higgs and his three friends inside the residence,” police wrote in the charging documents.
The two suspects were arraigned at the Anchorage Correctional Complex on Saturday and were remanded under bails of $500,000 cash corporate with requirements for a third-party custodian.
Police say they are continuing to investigate the shooting and no other arrests or charges have been made.
“If anyone has anything to report about any activity occuring near the area of Boniface Pkwy and E 4th Avenue prior to the shooting, please contact APD at 786-8900,” police wrote in an updated release.
