Storm delivers high winds and heavy rain to Southeast Alaska
A storm system moving across Southeast Alaska Friday is bringing high winds and heavy rain to the area.
Most of Southeast Alaska has already seen 1 to 3 inches of rain, with more on the way Friday night. A total of 2 to 5 inches of rain is likely by early Saturday. Winds have already gusted over 60 mph near Cape Spencer and Cape Decision.
A High Wind Warning is in effect until 7 p.m. Friday from Cape Decision to the Salisbury Sound coastal area, which includes Sitka and Port Alexander.
These areas should expect winds 35 to 45 mph from the west, with gusts to 65 mph. The strongest winds will be between 4 and 6 p.m.
