Spring snow storm closes Anchorage schools

The Anchorage School District closed schools Wednesday because of poor road conditions, following an overnight snow storm. District spokesperson Heidi Embley said after school events were cancelled, as well.
This is the first snow day of the current school year, she noted.
“And probably (the) first actual ‘snow’ day in years,” Embley wrote in an email. “Usually it’s ice days.”
In a winter weather advisory issued at 3:28 a.m. for Anchorage, Eagle River, Indian and Eklutna, the National Weather Service said snow will continue through the morning. Four to eight inches of snow is expected to accumulate.
This is a developing story; check back for updates.
