Set to defend their Great Northwest Athletic Conference crown for a third consecutive year, the University of Alaska Anchorage volleyball team continues to round out their roster in the midst of spring workouts.

 

Friday, the Seawolves’ head coach Chris Green announced three new recruits that will don the green and gold in 2017.

 

Glendale Arizona Community College standout Tara Melton will try to fill a void at the middle-blocker position, open due to the graduation of Erin Braun. The 6-foot-1-inch NJCAA First Team All-American ranked third in the nation in attack percentage at .435.

 

From All-American to the elite of the Czech Republic, UAA also adds 6-foot-two-inch Vera Pluharova at the middle-blocker position. Pluharova will be a true freshman after playing the last two seasons for TJ Slavia Hradec Kralove, a prestigious club team in the Czech Republic.

 

Also announced, Dimond high school alum Anjoilyn Vreeland. Vreeland was a four year letter winner with the Lynx, spending last season at Blue Mountain Community College in Oregon where she averaged 3.08 digs per set as a libber/defensive specialist.

 

The Seawolves look to built on a 34-3 record, returning nine players/four starters from last year’s team that finished national runner-up. UAA opens the season September 1 in San Diego, CA, against Cal State Los Angeles in the Point Loma Invitational.
