Reindeer, costume-clad people race down Fourth Avenue
ANCHORAGE – Saturday was one of Fur Rondy’s biggest events — the Running of the Reindeer.
More than 2,000 people signed up for the seventh annual race and thousands more turned out to watch.
The Palmer-based Reindeer Farm brought down 20 animals.
Runners participated in four heats: Men, women and high schoolers, couples and tourists.
They took off down the snow-covered Fourth Avenue and tried to dodge the antlers.
Costumes are always encouraged for the big event. With such nice weather, some people showed up in bikinis.
The event is also a fundraiser for Toys for Tots.
