State fair hosts duct tape competition
The Alaska State Fair offers fun in many flavors, including all kinds of contests and competitions. One of the wackier ones on Sunday was the Great Alaska Duct Tape Competition.
Contestants of all ages had just 15 minutes to come up with an original creation from duct tape.
Winner Marisa Garagues said she didn’t know what she would do before the timer started. But once she saw purple duct tape among the offerings, she knew she wanted a movie theme. Garagues chose a character from the “Despicable Me” films.
“This is a Minion,” said Garagues. “I saw the purple duct tape and was immediately inspired by the characters that go from yellow to purple. So I thought, you know, that will be a fun thing to do.”
Other entries included duct tape jewelry, duct tape shoes and even a duct tape bouquet.
