Colony High School marching band selected to play in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
Members of Palmer’s Colony High School marching band received quite a surprise Thursday afternoon. They’ve been chosen to play in the 2017 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.
What began as a normal school day quickly turned to cheers of excitement as staff informed the band members of the surprise.
“I really wanted to cry because for five years I’ve wanted to march in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade,” sophomore Hailey Dougherty said.
The band was one of 10 selected from “hundreds of applicants,” according to a press release from Macy’s.
“It’s a little bit of validation that we are doing a good job and this is an incredible opportunity,” band director Jamin Burton said.
School officials and staff worked hard to keep the news secret as long as possible. Members of the 2017-2018 marching band will be attending the parade.
