Troopers identify missing Eklutna Lake kayaker as Texas airman, recovery continues
Alaska State Troopers have identified the man who went missing in Eklutna Lake on Monday as 20-year-old Robert Brown of Texas. Efforts to recover him continued Thursday.
Troopers said Brown was in the Air Force and stationed at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.
The Anchorage Fire Department was notified Brown had gone missing when his kayak overturned near Eklutna Lake shortly after 5 p.m. on Monday. In a trooper dispatch published Thursday, the agency wrote that Brown went missing near the Municipality of Anchorage water supply intake.
Rescuers with AFD were unable to dive to recover Brown because the currents in the area were too strong and risky for divers, troopers said.
In the dispatch, troopers said they’d be flying over Eklutna Lake to continue search efforts.
Brown’s next of kin have been notified.
