Apartments evacuated after early morning fire in Anchorage
An early morning fire forced residents in a three-story apartment complex on the 400 block of North Lane Street to evacuate their homes Friday.
According to a Donna Joseph, who lives in the complex, the Anchorage Fire Department (AFD) arrived and began evacuations around 3:15 a.m.
“We were asleep and we heard banging next door. And my friend’s here, opened the door and there were firemen said there was a fire going on,” she said.
When she left the building, she said they saw smoke on the top floor. A firefighter on the scene told KTVA there are no injuries at this time. According to the firefighter, the fire started in the stairwell, but there doesn’t seem to be any obvious accelerant.
A fire investigator was on scene to determine the cause of the fire, which is still unknown.
