APD: Suicidal suspect in custody after gunfire inside a South Anchorage home
Anchorage Police say the suicidal man who was inside a South Anchorage home has been taken into custody without incident.
Part of Dimond Boulevard in was shut down Tuesday afternoon east of Jewel Lake Road, after police said a suicidal man inside a nearby home had fired a gun.
Police were asking people to avoid the closed section of Dimond between Arlene and Blackberry streets, spokeswoman Renee Oistad said in a statement.
Officers first responded to the 2800 block of West 91st Avenue just after 1:30 p.m., after a call reporting “an armed man threatening suicide.”
“The suicidal subject is alone in his residence and he has fired shots inside his home,” Oistad wrote. “There have been no reports of injuries and surrounding houses have been evacuated.”
None of the several shots police had heard Tuesday were fired out the residence’s windows, according to Oistad.
“They’re contained inside the home,” Oistad said.
According to a Nixle sent at 4:12 p.m., Dimond Boulevard is still closed and will be reopened momentarily.
