A 33-year-old man taken to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital with critical injuries following a crash near Chena Pump Road Thursday morning has died from his injuries

James R. Stacy was behind the wheel of a 1995 GMC PK when Alaska State Troopers found it in a ditch over the side of a steep embankment on Roland Road, according to an AST dispatch. Troopers first began searching for the vehicle after receiving a report of a reckless driver on Chena Pump Road around 1:30 a.m. The driver of the dark-colored GMC had reportedly left the roadway then continued northbound, swerving between lanes of traffic. While a trooper who responded to the area was unable to locate the vehicle, AST found it about 30 minutes later after answering a call about a crash on Roland Road.

Emergency responders discovered Stacy in the driver’s seat in critical condition.

Both AST and the Fairbanks Police Department responded to the crash, and Roland Road was reduced to one lane of traffic while troopers investigated the scene.

Stacy’s next of kin were with him at the hospital when he passed, according to troopers. His body will be transported to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage for an autopsy.
