Fairbanks man killed in Chena Hot Springs Road collision
A collision on Chena Hot Springs Road Saturday afternoon injured two Wisconsin men and claimed the life of 33-year-old Fairbanks resident Michael Dick.
Alaska State Troopers responded to the scene of the crash near Rifle Road around 12:45 p.m., according to an online troopers dispatch. Two vehicles collided head-on after one of them — a Ford F-150 pickup truck — cross the center line into oncoming traffic.
The truck was driven by 22-year-old Luke LaCross, of Wisconsin, according to troopers. He and his passenger, 64-year-old Wayne LaCross, also of Wisconsin, were treated for injuries troopers did not consider life-threatening.
Dick was driving a Toyota Rav4. An ambulance rushed Dick to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but he was pronounced dead at 1:49 p.m. as a result of those injuries, troopers wrote. Troopers alerted his family of his death.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, but troopers noted that alcohol and drugs were not considered factors.
“At the time of the collision, road conditions were slick due to ice and freezing rain,” troopers wrote.
