Biologists kill food-conditioned grizzly
Biologists in Deadhorse say they were forced to kill a 10-year-old female grizzly, known as, “Bear 147,” a Fish and Game research animal.
They say the bear had become conditioned to human food and had learned to open doors and break into kitchens.
The North Slope Borough provides bear-proof garbage cans for food waste. But biologists say a number of people in Deadhorse were throwing scraps into regular trash cans.
Fish and game captured the sow’s two cubs.
