What a ride so far!

The great thing about Alaska is you don't have to drive far to see things that make this state truly amazing. From a quick trip to the Upper Huffman Trail to watch spectacular auroras with my wife and kids, to seeing majestic eagles in the middle of town near UAA, to watching bears and moose at Potter Marsh. I should put up a tent at the marsh I'm there so much!

What an honor it's been to tell the stories of Alaskans. From some Spring Hill Elementary students who heroically saved a girl who was hanging from a tree by her hoodie, to going on an "Honor Flight" to Washington D.C. with the brave men and women from Alaska who fought to protect our freedom. KTVA would later be honored with an Emmy Award for a 30-minute special about those veterans on that Honor Flight trip.

This is my 27th year working as a television news journalist, with stops at TV stations in Iowa, Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico. I am from Willmar, Minnesota, and graduated from St. Cloud State University. I love the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings, even with the Vikes 0-4 in the Super Bowl.
When I'm not reporting, you will find me taking photos of eagles near 20 Mile River near Girdwood, playing golf with my 9-year-old son-- who I've yet to beat-- and playing Barbie and Ken dolls with my 6-year-old daughter.

I also feel extremely fortunate to have met so many kind people in Alaska-- people who treat you as one of their own and rally around you when times get tough. Thank you!
