Teams prepare for steep terrain

TWO RIVERS – Just 73 miles into the 1,000-mile dog sled race, Yukon Quest teams began pulling through the Two Rivers checkpoint Saturday evening.

Race veteran Hugh Neff — currently in fourth place — said competitors were preparing for rough terrain around Rosebud and Eagle summits.

“Rosebud, it’s the uphill part you’re worried about, and Eagle it’s the downhill part,” he said. ”It can be dangerous, too…You’re going down a mountain like a ski slope with 14 dogs pulling you.”
