Alaska Honor Flight veterans headed home Friday after a week filled with smiles and some tears from visiting war memorials dedicated just to them.
The plane ride back wasn’t the end of the adventure though.
At around 35,000 feet in the air, the veterans heard a familiar phrase: mail call.
It was a very special mail call though. The veterans received letters from friends and family back home, thanking them for their service. Anchorage students also wrote to them, and we asked some children at the World War II Memorial to read a few of the letters aloud.
Watch the video above to hear what the letters said.
If you also want to show your support, you’re encouraged to show up at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport around 12:30 p.m. Saturday to welcome the Honor Flight veterans back home.
