Depending on where you live in Alaska the sun is shining brighter and lasting longer than anytime so far this year!

With Summer Solstice only days away, most of Alaska gets to enjoy the season twice as long (at least for Barrow) and nearly twice as long elsewhere than those in the lower 48!

From Unalaska to Ketchikan you’re at over 17 hours of daylight and it’s going to be wet and windy so catch the sunbreaks when you can!
Kodiak to Juneau you’re at over 18 hours of daylight with sunshine looking a little more promising and a few showers here and there.

Those towns at over 19 hours include Anchorage and the Kenai Peninsula where I’ve ordered the perfect fishing weather …. Sooooo FISH ON!

From Nome to Fairbanks (and all areas in between) you’re at over 21 hours and still dealing with isolated thunderstorms. A trained spotter with the National Weather Service reported hail ½ inch in diameter in Nulato today. And that’s just the least of your problems as those B-52 mosquitos are also out in full force… yikes!

And lastly…. Thank goodness the sun never sets this time of year in Barrow (at least not from May 10th to August 2nd)!! If any town deserves “double time” this summer it’s you. Lord knows you’ll take any good measure Mother Nature hands you. Especially since you just can’t break those daytime highs in the 30’s. There is hope, however, that those low 40’s are right around the corner.

Enjoy your pocket of sunshine!
