Toward the west, a warm air mass clashes with a colder air mass creating winter weather for the West Coast. The warm air mass moving into Alaska will cause the Interior to warm up by 20 degrees. Expect winds on Monday for the North, West, Southeast and Southwest. On Tuesday, winds will blow over the West, South Central, Southwest, and Southeast.
Anticipate mostly sunny skies for the Anchorage Bowl for Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday we shall have mixed isolated showers of snow and rain over the mountains and by the afternoon snow flakes and winds will occur at ground level. This is caused by cold air aloft. Warm air over Anchorage Bowl will rise as cold air aloft descends in mixing winds toward the surface. By Thursday there will be sunshine and clouds and on Friday the cloud cover will increase as isolated snow and rain showers develop along the mountains. We shall be greeted by partly sunny skies by the weekend. Temperatures will continue to increase and will peak on Tuesday with a high of 39 degrees. As cold air aloft descends, likewise our thermometer drops to 19 degrees. Clouds will start to scatter out starting Friday and throughout the weekend.
Tomorrow the Southeast will experience mostly cloudy skies with isolated showers of mixed snow and rain and winds. The Interior will enjoy warmer and pleasant weather consisting of mostly sunny skies and warming overnight temperatures by 20 degrees. A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect for Nome until 6 A.M. Residents can expect the weather conditions to gradually taper off into mostly cloudy skies with scattered snow showers and blowing snow. Bethel will also encounter similar conditions of mostly cloudy skies, snow showers, and winds with blowing snow. Low temperatures will reach a warm 28 degree point. Kodiak will experience rain and snow showers and Unalaska have winds and snow. Low temperatures will attain the 30 degree mark. Valdez will have beautiful mostly sunny skies, winds, and a 22 degree low temperature.
February begins with severe winter weather for the West but conditions seem to be less severe for the rest of the state that experiences sunny skies and warmer temperatures. Enjoy the snow flakes before they melt and turn to ice!
