South central and southeast will see the brunt of this storm. This system is going to bring much warmer air back into south central, windy conditions in places, and widespread rain and snow from south central into the southeast. In south central most of the snow and rain will be found around the Prince William Sound and eastern and southern Kenai peninsula on Wednesday. The onshore flow will be out of the southeast so things will be fairly dry much of the day Wednesday from the western Kenai Peninsula, Anchorage Bowl, and Matanuska Valley. As the center of low pressure moves closer the the region on Thursday we will see the winds diminish and the flow will change allowing for the precipitation to become more widespread by the afternoon. Snow will likely linger into Friday before things quiet down again by the weekend. In the southeast this system will primarily be a rain event for you. Good news for Interior Alaska and the western half of the state is that this more active weather pattern is going to allow much warmer air to move north and westward. Expect a nice warm up by Sunday in these locations. 7 Day Forecast For Anchorage Overnight will be cloudy with an occasional snow shower. Little accumulation is expected. Temperatures won’t drop much more with lows of 10 to 15 degrees. Wednesday will be cloudy with isolated snow showers. The winds will increase on the Hillside and along the Turnagain Arm. Highs will be in the mid to upper 20s. Thursday highs will be 30 to 35. Winds will diminish on the Hillside and Turnagain Arm throughout the day. As the winds diminish we should see some snow begin to develop last in the day. Friday we will see snow at times with highs in the mid 20s. Saturday and Sunday will be partly cloudy with highs in the 20s. Monday and Tuesday will be mostly to partly cloudy with highs in the mid to upper 20s. |

Did your weatherman mention that a chinook wind got it's name from a Chinook helicopter? Chinook winds have been around since 1860-and perhaps he meant to say that the helicopter was named for the wind? That was a mistake.
